Deshna is a rising freshman at Johns Hopkins University and is studying Neuroscience and Public Health on the pre-med track. Throughout high school, Deshna has participated in several research projects. At Intelliscience Institute, she and her partner used Nanopore technology to assemble the first reference genome of the C. plocamia and published the paper "Genome Assembly and Annotation of the South American Sea Nettle Chrysaora plocamia allows for identification of Putative Venom Genes." This work won second place at the North American Marine Environment Protection Association's (NAMEPA) Marine Scholarship Award and was presented at IEEE. Recently, under the guidance of Dr. Andrea Kusec from the University of Oxford, she completed the paper "Cognitive symptoms moderate the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and generalized anxiety severity in long-term acquired brain injury" and learned about traumatic brain injuries and cognition as well as how to use R in statistical analysis. Deshna has also participated in several internships, including at Brainscanology where she used shape analysis to measure the shape of cups and discs in the eye to aid in the detection of glaucoma. She also interned at bitWise Academy where she helped develop a curriculum for AP Psychology. Deshna is passionate about the medical field and has shadowed several neurologists in Bristol Hospital too. She has been tutoring students for 5 years and enjoys working with others to help them learn in whatever way they find most helpful and learn in the process herself.
