- How Guntas.S Scored a 1560 on the SAT, with a 150 point gain!
- When Guntas.S first started SAT prep with North American Tutors, he was already scoring in the 1400s, a strong place to begin, but short of his goal. His aim was ambitious: break the 1550 mark and walk into test day with complete control over both sections. - After working consistently with Byung Ju Min throughout the summer, Guntas not only achieved that , he crushed it. By September, he had scored a 1560 on the SAT, with a 150 point increase from his first attempt.

- Starting Point: Strong Scores, But Room to Sharpen- Guntas came in with a solid understanding of SAT concepts, but like many high performers, was being held back by “silly mistakes” and a few recurring weak spots, particularly in advanced algebra and geometry.- His tutor, Byung, immediately began to isolate those patterns:- “Guntas is very familiar with concepts in higher-level math. He simply needs more practice with execution and avoiding careless errors.”- They also uncovered some key areas in Reading & Writing, including vocabulary-based reading questions and grammar structures like modifiers and participle phrases.- Phase One: Content Refinement + Repetition- Through July and August, Guntas focused heavily on:- Difficult algebra and geometry problems (parabolas, functions, similarity)
- Reviewing transitions, vocabulary traps, and poetry passages
- Building precision with grammar (verb tense, punctuation, subject identification)
 - Byung supplemented their sessions with:- CrackSAT and released tests for consistent exposure
- Bluebook diagnostics to track specific sub-skill progress
- Verbal drills and mini-reviews between sessions
 - “He is at a point where familiarizing himself with the questions is the only step that remains,” Byung noted in late August.- Phase Two: Strategy, Timing & Confidence- As Guntas neared test day, the work shifted from review to strategy:- Practicing under pressure and simulating real test pacing
- Reviewing past errors and recurring traps (e.g. misreading quadratic structure or over-relying on Desmos)
- Identifying grammar blind spots and drilling concepts like perfect tense, dangling modifiers, and punctuating transitions
 - He scored a 1570 on one of his final Bluebook tests, and from there, it was just about maintaining rhythm.- “We did a final review of various questions,” Byung reported. “The main advice now is: do nothing the day before, warm up on test morning, and walk in with clarity.”- The Breakthrough: 1560 on the Official SAT- Guntas received his September SAT score and it confirmed what he and his tutor had already seen coming:- Official SAT Score: 1560
 Math: 790
Reading & Writing: 770- His consistent work from early algebra drills to late-stage strategy, paid off fully. His score met his college goals, and his confidence carried through into the application season.- Why Guntas’s Story Matters- Guntas’s story shows what happens when raw potential meets refined structure. He didn’t need tutoring to teach him everything, he needed someone to sharpen what he already knew and help him practice like it was game day.- At North American Tutors, that’s exactly what we do - whether you're climbing from 1200 to 1400 or from 1450 to 1550+.
