Andre Nguyen

I graduated from high school in 2024 and was the class valedictorian. I took 14 AP courses throughout high school and scored well on all of them, and tutored my fellow classmates in biology, chemistry, and calculus, as well as younger peers in science and math. Currently, I am a junior at Duke on the pre-med track and am majoring in neuroscience and chemistry. I recently took the MCAT and am awaiting my scores, but I am highly confident I did well, as my full-length practice exams hovered around 522+. At Duke, I do gene therapy research and have my own project focusing on viral delivery systems for CRISPR gene therapies in kidney cells to treat kidney disorders. Additionally, I participate in research in my hometown of Spartanburg, SC, and focus on how DNA nucleotide complexes lead to cancer and ALS. Outside of research, I work in the OR at the hospital as a perioperative assistant, volunteer as a head coach for a youth basketball league (ages 4-12) in the Durham area through Coach2Inspire, and do volunteer personal training for BullCityFit in Durham. At Duke, I've gotten A's in molecular biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and my neuroscience courses. Additionally, I am bilingual, as I speak French and scored a 5 on AP French in HS. Overall, I have lots of experience in teaching, whether that be academic or outside academics through sports and fitness. Overall, I have lots of experience with the core science subject, standardized tests, and I am passionate about exercise, mentoring, community work, and I believe making learning an enjoyable experience through patience and specialized plans for individuals.
