What Happens During an Online Math Session
Sessions are one-on-one and online, on Zoom or a platform you prefer, usually 60 or 90 minutes, using a shared digital whiteboard so your student and tutor can work problems together in real time.
A session starts with a focus: this week's homework, a topic from class that did not land, or a set of practice problems for an upcoming test. The tutor works alongside the student rather than lecturing, watching them attempt a problem, spotting exactly where the reasoning breaks, and correcting it on the spot. Math is a subject where one shaky step compounds, so finding that step is most of the job.
Before the session ends, the tutor assigns a short set of practice problems on the same concept, due before the next session, and stays reachable by email for a quick stuck-point. You get a short written summary after each session, so progress is easy to track and a parent can see what was covered.
SAT, ACT, AP, and College Math

How to Choose a Math Tutor: What Actually Matters
Look past price to the things that decide whether tutoring works:
Is the tutor at the right level for the student? A brilliant college mathematician is not automatically the right fit for a struggling ninth grader. Match the tutor to the level and the temperament, not just the subject name.
Can the tutor find the broken step? Math errors compound from one weak link. The best tutors diagnose exactly where a student's reasoning fails before they start teaching.
Does the tutor build understanding or just method? Memorizing a procedure gets a student through one test. Understanding why it works is what holds up in the next course. Ask how the tutor balances the two.
Does the tutor fit the student's pace and patience needs? Some students need slow, encouraging repetition; others want to be pushed toward harder problems. Ask how the tutor adjusts.
Is the tutor available at the frequency you need? Twice a week before a final only helps if the tutor can schedule it.
